Still Wiggling and Weaving
Still twisting and turning information–this is part of Lamb’s 8W Wiggling stage. I have read magazines, web-pages, conducted interviews and read books regarding how to effectively lose weight. Many of my findings are stressing portion control, calorie counting, exercise and adapting a healthy lifestyle.
I am still in the beginning stages of Lamb’s 8W ‘s Weaving stage, defined as organizing ideas, creating models and formulating plans. Organizing my ideas has been somewhat enlightening. It seems that the experts are stressing the simple idea of calories in/calories out. Specifically, burn more calories than what you take in and you will lose weight. No magic pill or difficult formula to follow. So simple; yet profound. I have read many examples of individuals who have achieved success by using these methods.
In reference to organizing my ideas, this has been somewhat of a challenge. So much information, that I found was commercial–revolving around selling a pill, quick fix, miracle diet, etc. to loose weight. Some appeared to be gimmicks. After reading through the materials, I did not feel that all were reliable sources. Yet, this process was time intensive. However, I realize this is part of the research, but I found it frustrating. I can relate to Pappas & Tepe (2002) who stated that “during the search stage, searchers identify appropriate information providers, then plan and implement a search strategy to find information relevant to their research question”. Finding appropriate information providers on the Internet was challenging at times. As a result, I began to seek out books and magazines. However, in defense of the Internet, I did find valuable sites.
